After 3 full seasons, it was time to see how we are progressing. Although our finishes are not what we were hoping for, they are headed in the right direction!

Sept 14, 2011 - Update
Well, it is time! Car is loaded, and ready to go! Canadian SprintCar Nationals Thursday, Friday and Saturday! Thursday is a regular Corr/Pak race, Friday the famous Night before the Nationals and then the big one, Saturday - the 7th annual CSCN!
Sept 7, 2011 - Update
What an aswsome weekend of racing - didn't get the results we were hoping for, but the car ran well and we came home in one piece!
On Friday Sept 2, we tried a new setup and the car worked better - perhaps a little too much forward bite as the front wheels were in the air at the exit of almost every corner! We started the feature in 14th and finished 14th.
Saturday we ventured to Brighton Speedway for day 1 of the Labour Day Classic - the heat race didn't go so well and we ended up starting 18th in the feature. But through determination and a few yellow flags we clawed our way up to 8th by the end of the race!
On Sunday, the skies were threatening all day but the rain held off until after the races. In Hot laps and in the heat race the car was wicked fast - we finished 4th in the heat race. This gave us a 10-th position starting spot in the feature. A few laps into the feature we were running 8th when the unexpected happened - the RAD cap blew off and we had to pull off the track - ending up being scored 16th.
Thanks to all our sponsors!
Aug 26, 2011 - Update
Started and finished 17th in the A. Not so good, but at the same time we managed to finish a race!
We tried several new setup ideas, we think they worked but hard to tell because the track was rough again. Near the end of the race Chris ran the extreem low side of the track gaining some valuable experience running low.
Next week we run Ohsweken speedway on Friday night, then depending on the weather Brighton on Saturday and Sunday or Eries on Sunday.
Aug 19, 2011 - Update
Well the month of Aug has been trying.... Major crash July 22, 2011, then mag problems Aug 5, finally finished a race Aug 12!
Last night (Friday Aug 19th) was round 3 of the Northern Summer nationals at Oshweken. A strong field of 40 cars showed up with only 26 starting in the A main. We struggled in our heat race, breaking the wing slider. We started 8th in the B (a field of 22 cars for the B) and finished 6th or 7th - making the Summer Nationals A main!
Starting 25th in the A Chris moved up to 16th and then slid off the top of the track in corner 1, causing him to fall back to 20th, The track was very soft which caused major ruts in the racing surface all night long, 5 cars flipped simply due to the track surface. Through out the A main Chris tried different lines, the high side was by far the fasted but extreamly rough. Finally, with 8 laps to go, Chris hit the same rut the other 5 sprintcars did and flipped in corner 2 - bring the night to an end.

Despite the wreck, the night was not all bad - the car handled well and the Ashton Motors racing Engine performed at its peak!
Aug 1, 2011 - Race report
Well, the ups and downs of racing. After a strong 3rd place finish at Brockville Speedway on July 16th, the next stop for Durand Racing was Friday Night Thunder, July 22, 2011. During hot laps, the engine seemed to be straining to keep up, we a small adjustment to the fuel mixture, the car seemed better, but still not up to par. We managed to make the A but still having speed issues.. After one of the restarts, Chris tried a different line and found a goldmine of speed! As the laps wound down, Chris passed several cars moving forward every lap. As we were entering turn 1 at approx 100mph, a car was exiting the track not noing we were on the high side of the track, Durand Racings 67's left front wheel hit the right rear of the number 5 car sending Chris spinning into the catch fence!
When all was said and done, the car suffered severe damage and was done for the night.
After thrashing for the next 3 days, we managed to make it our for Tony Stewart night (Tuesday July 26th)! Although the car was ready, we still had motor issues and Chris was not fully recovered from the minor concussion so we ended up parking the car for the night after the heat race.
As of today, it looks like we have the motor issues resolved and Chris is feeling much better. If Chris continues to progress as expected, we should be at the track for friday Night Thunder on Aug 5th!
Thanks to all the teams that helped us rebuild the sprintcar!
July 16, 2011 - Patriots Sprint Tour - Brockville Speedway
Wow, what a night. Left the shop at 7:30am and arrived at Brockville speedway around 3:00pm - what a great looking speedway! 27 sprint cars signed in, 22 cars to start the A main. Chris pulled the last pill and had to start 9th in his heat race. Top 6 from the heat race qualified for the A main.
Well, this was our first time at the track so Durand Racing was a bit worried about getting into the A main. Turns out we qualified for the A main directly form the heat race - a 5th place finish!
That put us into the dash, we started 4th and in the 1st lap we were up to 3rd. Then IT happened - the 2nd place car spun the first place car which we couldn't avoid and we ended up hitting the cement wall coming out of turn 4! Our dash race was over and if we could repair the car we would start 14th in the feature race.
As luck would have it, we only wrecked the RR tire and rim. We were good to go for the A main!
The A main saw a lot of single car spins, causing the race to take over an hour to complete. Each green flag run, Chris would pass a car or two until we were running 3rd behind 5D Dykstra and Zimbardi - in the remaining laps, Chris and Dykstra would trade 2nd a few times with Dykstra eventually taking 2nd with Chris finishing 3rd. Our best finish ever in a sprint car!
A quote from the Patriot's race report: "As Zimbardi drove to the win, a great battle was on between Dave Dykstra and Chris Durand, two Southern Ontario shoes that had started mid-pack. Despite having significant damage to the nose wing, Dykstra would hang on for second. Durand had a look at the runner-up spot on the final lap but would settle for third, still his career-best in a sprint car".
Thanks to all our sponsors, the Patriots Sprint Car tour and Brockville Speedway for a great night of racing!
July 15, 2011 - Friday Night Thunder - Ohsweken Speedway
Finished 13th in A main
July 8, 2011 - Friday Night Thunder
Well another DNF. Got caught in a wreck on lap one, launched can and landed backwards! Restarted and after a few laps realized that something was wrong in the driveline. Pulled off to find out the the ring and pinion were stripped. Rear End #2 for the season!
Thanks to the racing community, we have located the parts and are ready to go for another round of Friday Night Thunder - July 15th!
July 1, 2011 - Friday Night Thunder
What a night!
To start with, Connor and his Dad helped us in the pits all night - thanks!
During hot laps the right front shock fell off so the handling was way off, fixed the shock and went out the the heat race - wow we were horrible, started and finished last! Since there were only 23 cars so we made the A Main.
We made a few changes (LR tire, and took 1/2 round out of the rear), and the 67 Durand Racing Sprint Car became a rocket! Started 21st and ending up finishing 9th!
